Rescue Efforts Fall Short for Injured Deer

Baghiapada: A wild deer that wandered into Kamira village in Boudh district was rescued by local villagers but unfortunately succumbed to its injuries while receiving treatment at a veterinary facility later that day.

Forest officials reported that the deer had entered the village from the nearby Gandisar forests early in the morning. Concerned residents successfully captured the animal and promptly notified the Forest department.

Ramakanta Panigrahi, a forest guard, took charge of the injured deer and transported it to the veterinary hospital in Boudh. The animal had suffered a head injury and had a broken antler. After conducting a necropsy, Forest officials buried the carcass at the Bamanda nursery.

Authorities suspect that poachers may have targeted the deer, as the nature of its head injury indicates possible external trauma. Villagers noted that deer are occasionally spotted in the adjacent protected forest and have urged the Forest department to enhance conservation measures to safeguard these animals.
